Guidance on Implementing Effective Programs to Prevent Pre-Eclampsia and Eclampsia and Anemia to Improve Maternal and Newborn Outcomes: 14 April, 9h00 - 17h00

MCHIP and partners will hold a pre-conference workshop on 14 April to discuss maternal anemia control and calcium supplementation — two high-impact interventions that reduce maternal, newborn, and child mortality. This workshop will present the existing and emerging evidence that maternal iron-folic acid supplementation and interventions to reduce malaria and helminths in pregnancy reduces maternal, newborn, and child mortality. Eclampsia causes perinatal and maternal mortality in developing countries.  Because calcium supplementation can reduce the risk of pre-elampsia and its symptoms, which often occur before eclampsia, WHO now recommends pregnant women take calcium where intake is low. Program considerations for anemia control and calcium supplementation will be presented and discussed. Registration and a fee of US$50 / 450ZAR are required.

On-Site Check-In: 14 – 15 April

Individuals interested in attending the conference must pre-register online; registration will not be available on-site. On-site check-in will take place at the Birchwood Hotel. Participants attending the Nutrition Pre-Conference Workshop can check-in on Sunday, 14 April, prior to the start of the meeting. All other participants can check-in on either Sunday, 14 April, from 16h00 to 19h00 or on Monday, 15 April at 7h30 prior to the start of the conference.
